Meet the Guinean flute, the mouth bow, the tama – and a singular voice unafraid to listen, but this time ready to speak

This edition, master of ceremony Rashif El Kaoui, percussionist Bert Peyffers, bassist Louise van den Heuvel and pianist Andy Willems are joined by musical chameleon Kaito Winse and writer and public thinker Dominique Willaert.

This Elfurenmis revolves around one act above all: listening.
Listening to one another, to what stirs among people.
Listening critically to politics, and how it treats "the people".
A practice that reveals the sore spots in our democratic fabric.
Listening to a singular musician.
Listening to the author of the inspiring book Not everything, but much begins with listening.

With a voice as captivating as it is virtuosic, and rhythmic precision that brings stories to life, Kaito Winse draws listeners into timeless truths. Armed with an extensive array of instruments — from calabash and mouth bow to Peul flute, toutlé flute and the tama, a drum that imitates human speech — he weaves music, poetry and movement into a unique experience. Let Kaito be your guide through the storms of life, offering timeless wisdom and spellbinding melodies.

Dominique Willaert (born 1968) is an author, columnist and theatre maker. For over twenty years he was artistic director of the socially engaged arts collective Victoria Deluxe in Ghent, creating many theatre productions, often site-specific and in close collaboration with diverse communities. In recent years, he has focused primarily on writing. His most recent books include Dancing on a boiling volcano and Not everything, but much begins with listening (EPO publishing).

Elfurenmis is a co-production by De VELINX and B Classic.
