A freethinker and a soprano together on stage: vocal fireworks and critical thought twists on Sunday morning
Johan Braeckman (Wetteren, 1965) is a full professor of philosophy at Ghent University, co-founder of De Maakbare Mens, and a member of the editorial board of Wonder en is gheen Wonder, the journal of SKEPP. In 1997, he obtained his PhD in philosophy at Ghent University with his dissertation "The Natural Order Between Necessity and Chance, Benevolence and Hostility, Design and Evolution: The Darwinian Transition." His supervisor was Professor Etienne Vermeersch, whom he later assisted. In 2013, Johan Braeckman received the career award from the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Science and the Arts. In 2019, he was awarded the Prize for Freethinking Humanism, and in 2022 he was named Atheist of the Year by the freethinkers' movement De Vrije Gedachte in the Netherlands. In 2022, Johan Braeckman received the Prize for Free Thinking from the Maeckelberghe Foundation in Belgium.
Lore Binon began her musical career as a successful violinist, but gradually her passion for the voice took over. She is at home in solo song, concert repertoire, and music theater. Lore has performed with the Freiburger Barockorchester, toured with the ensemble Ictus and Rosas, and shines with her own company Revue Blanche – in the unusual combination of soprano, flute, viola, and harp – on Flemish stages. Her sensitive musical personality makes her an internationally sought-after soloist in both symphonic repertoire and early music. Lore was seen earlier in the season in "Yule" together with Meskerem Mees and Zefiro Torna in the Tongeren Basilica.
The Elfurenmissen are a co-production between VELINX and B-Classic.
