"What are we eating today?"
Probably the most frequently asked question in any household.
In this edition of Elfurenmis, we reflect on the essential theme of food:
Food for thought.
For this nourishing service, our regular quartet is joined by theatre maker and global food improver Sien Vanmaele, and cellist Ewout Lehoucq.
Sien Vanmaele writes, creates and performs her own theatre productions. She graduated from the Maastricht Academy of Performing Arts as an actress. Her solo work always begins from personal experience, uncovering the small tragedies of everyday life. Whether through video performance, musical theatre, podcasts, online interaction or sensory rituals, her message is always delivered with a disarming and vulnerable honesty that gently comforts her audience. A defining trait of her work is its sensory depth — her performances often engage taste, smell and touch. Sien is deeply passionate about food, the systems that surround it and its impact on the climate.
Ewout Lehoucq (born 1987) is a performer, creator, singer (bass-baritone and countertenor) and cellist. He took his first musical steps in the children’s choir of the Flemish Opera, where he discovered his love for opera and music theatre. Alongside studies in literature (University of Antwerp) and drama (Royal Conservatory of Antwerp), he developed a versatile artistic practice, from troubadour-style tours across Europe to experimental music theatre productions. With ensembles such as Badmeester and Margarita and Les Âmes Perdues, he explores the boundaries between classical music, chanson and gipsy swing jazz. He has also collaborated with Muziektheater Transparant, Zonzo Compagnie, de Roovers and Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe.
Elfurenmis is a co-production by De VELINX and B Classic.
