Elfurenmis is a Sunday morning ritual shaped by music and spoken word. A concept by de Velinx and B-Classic, it brings classical music, in its broadest and most open sense, into dialogue with a contemporary sermon of sorts. Not a sermon in the traditional sense, but a spoken reflection that challenges, comforts, questions and opens new perspectives.
Each edition brings together a fixed musical core and new voices. The B-Classic house band, consisting of percussionist Bert Peyffers, bassist Louise Van den Heuvel and pianist Andy Willems, forms the foundation. Around them, a new sonic landscape unfolds each time, with a guest solo musician adding their own voice to the collective experience.
The spoken word is equally central. An inspired speaker guides the audience through a text that does not seek to explain, but rather invites attention, reflection and surrender. Music and language move around one another, sometimes in harmony, sometimes in tension, yet always in service of the moment itself.
Master of ceremonies Rashif El Kaoui watches over the ritual. He welcomes, connects, gives thanks and offers a blessing. Elfurenmis is neither a concert, nor a lecture, nor a religious service, but a shared act of listening. Every edition has sold out. What lingers afterwards is the silence following the final note, and the echo of words that continue to resonate long after they have been spoken.
