On the eve, or rather the morning, of International Women’s Day, writer Heleen Debruyne touches our souls with a fiery sermon, while accordionist Suzan Peeters will play both the keys and our souls.
Heleen Debruyne is an author, columnist and radio maker. She grew up in Roeselare. After studying history and journalism, she found a home at Klara. As a writer, she has published several books with De Bezige Bij. She made her debut with De Plantrekkers (2016), a novel about how and why people lie. Together with Anaïs Van Ertvelde, she wrote Vuile Lakens (2017), a book about sex, shame and the impossibility of sexual freedom. With De Huisvriend (2021), she returned to her family history and investigated why her father had to stay for years with a paedophile family friend. In Aline (2025), she writes about female anger and the suffocating confines of the nuclear family. She is currently working on a philosophical pamphlet about abortion.
Suzan Peeters is a Belgian accordionist, improviser and sound artist who constantly stretches the boundaries of her instrument. With experimental playing techniques, a vibrating massage board and live electronics, she transforms the accordion into a source of unexpected textures, rhythms and resonances. Her work moves between improvisation, sound research and contemporary music, often starting from a physical and investigative approach to sound. Suzan is also a resident in B-Wild, the development programme by B-Classic and Wilde Westen that offers space to adventurous makers.
The holy quartet Rashif, Louise, Andy and Bert will, as always, provide the backbone of this Elfurenmis.
The Elfurenmis series is a co-production by De VELINX and B-Classic and is made possible thanks to the support of Flanders, the players of the National Lottery and the City of Tongeren-Borgloon.
