Joeri Chipsvingers is the alter ego of composer Michiel De Naegel, known from 30,000 Monkies and Youff. Where those projects confront the outside world, Joeri turns radically inward. And there, it is anything but quiet.
Within the development trajectory Studio Classic, in collaboration with Kunstplaats Vonk, Michiel has been shaping the musical and performative identity of this singular alter ego since 2021. What started as an idea has grown into a universe. A character. A mind in turmoil.
In Neem en eet hiervan, Joeri is stuck. Trapped inside his own thoughts. He searches for a way out, but is confronted with confusing, intrusive and hostile voices that wedge themselves between him and silence. Where do they come from? Is he alone in there?
His music behaves like a nervous organism. It bursts in all directions, shifting from fragile, almost classical passages to grotesque eruptions, only to collapse into sudden stillness. Romantic sweetness seeps over sharp edges. Seriousness and irony collide. Through this restless sonic landscape, Joeri moves back and forth. Preaching. Roaring. Pleading.
To the left lies a shard of heartbreak. To the right, a paralysing panic attack is approaching. And above it all, uncertainty reigns.
Neem en eet hiervan is a journey of many falls and a fragile attempt to rise again. A struggle with oneself. With voices you cannot grasp. With traps of your own making.
