Jasmijn Lootens
Jasmijn plays a wide spectrum, from classical cello across microtonal experiments to electronically manipulated improvisations.
In 2021, Jasmijn got selected for Studio Classic, an intense artistic trajectory supported by B-Classic and VONK.
As a soloist, Jasmijn gave concerts at Ghent Festival of Flanders, Festival Midis-Minimes(Brussels), Baroque Festival Tata (HU), Klara in deSingel, Flagey, De Bijloke, Handelsbeurs, Concertgebouw aan 't IJ (NL) ... Her passion for ensemble playing and the variety of projects indicates her diverse range of interest in music.
With Nemø ensemble she performs contemporary, experimental music and explores alternative concert formats. Since 2020, she has formed the trio bODEM with clarinetist Niels Hap and pianist Ivo Delaere, with whom she will be playing at the Concertgebouw Brugge in February 2022.
As a hybrid cellist, Jasmijn questions the position of the performing cellist. She explores her creative boundaries and has become an expert in cello and electronics. Duo Jasmijn Lootens & A. De Causmaecker transforms image into sound: “Bild wird Ton. Ton bildet Bild.” Together with pianist Michaël Verlinden she founded the musical lab Oo. from which original compositions have been broadcasted on Klara during Late Night Shift and Valckenaers & Vanhoudt. This led to the interdisciplinary collective Studio Radiaal with Jeroen Cluckers (film), A. De Causmaecker (space) and Maarten Craeynest (music technology). During a two-year residency (2020-2022) at ChampdAction, they focus on audiovisual installations and performances. Their first output was presented in Germany, Canada, USA, Brazil, Australia, Belarus, Argentina, Spain, Turkey, Italy, UK, The Netherlands, and Belgium.
Since 2018, Jasmijn is working on a doctorate in the arts at LUCA School of Arts / KU Leuven and docARTES / Orpheus Institute in Ghent.
