B-Classic - Gwen Cresens

Gwen Cresens

Gwen Cresens is a Belgian accordionist, bandoneon player, arranger and composer. He studied classical accordion and chamber music at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp and developed a versatile career in which classical music, jazz, chanson, tango and music theatre flow effortlessly into one another.

As a musician, Cresens moves freely between genres and contexts. He has collaborated with a wide range of artists, ensembles and orchestras, including Arno, Raymond van het Groenewoud, Kommil Foo, Boudewijn de Groot, Henny Vrienten, Brussels Philharmonic, Antwerp Symphony Orchestra and Brussels Jazz Orchestra. His playing is characterised by a strong sense of stylistic freedom, with repertoire often serving as a starting point for improvisation, interpretation and musical encounter.

For B-Classic, Gwen Cresens performed at The Cabinet Sessions at the Rubens House in 2025, together with Philippe Thuriot. Two musical adventurers sharing a love for the accordion and musical freedom. Their performance moved between Bach, Scarlatti, Piazzolla and The Beatles, among others, using the score as a point of departure and improvisation and imagination as their guides.
