Looking for a cozy Friday night filled with jazz music, a herb walk, workshops and more?
Join us on 6 March for The Cabinet Sessions at the Rubens House. Just like last year, B-Classic curates the musical programme.
A warm jazz evening with Unfinished Business
Unfinished Business is a group of five passionate musicians who met in the corridors of the Antwerp Conservatory. Since then, they have been leaving a distinctive and recognizable mark on the musical landscape in and around the city.
Their music blends jazz with rock, funk and other influences into a fresh and distinctive sound that feels both familiar and new. Rooted in a strong musical foundation, their compositions leave plenty of room for freedom and improvisation. A combination that, in its spirit, would not feel out of place in Rubens’ world.
Jazz? Café vibes? Unfinished Business transports you to an intimate jazz bar inside the Rubens House.
Mini herb walk with wild forager Najomi from Scoby Club
Be surprised by beautiful plants, flowers, delicious fruits and remarkable flavour makers. During this short herb walk, you will discover edible and medicinal plants and take home plenty of culinary inspiration and kitchen secrets.
Ivory as an Allure for Rubens by John White
The finely carved ivory sculpture Adam and Eve was created by one of Rubens’ favourite sculptors, Georg Petel, and comes from Rubens’ own collection. Petel often worked on commission for Rubens, including this sculpture depicting Adam and Eve at the Tree of Knowledge.
John White is a visitor researcher at the Rubens House. His research focuses on carved ivory models, mainly from seventeenth-century Northern European art. During this introduction, you will have the opportunity to view the sculpture up close in the Rubens Experience.
Workshop: Introduction to botanical drawing
Have you always wanted to learn how to capture the beauty of nature on paper? In this introductory botanical drawing workshop, you will explore techniques to draw plants and flowers in a detailed and realistic way.
Ask Rubens!
Do you have a question or would you like more background information about the garden or the library? Our Rubens guides are available throughout the evening. Spot them by their green badges and feel free to ask anything.
